Home Medium Dogs

Here at Hectors House Crete there are always dogs for adoption. Most of our dogs go to Holland through Mirtos Animal Project, but they can be prepared to travel anywhere as long as the costs are met by the adoptee.

Below is a list of medium sized dogs who need adopting.

Jackie

I arrived at the shelter to find a dog tied to one of the trees in the field outside. The dog was petrified and I had to spend many days trying to gain her confidence.

She is still very scared of people she doesn't know. She must have been really badly treated by her 'owners' to be so frightened of everything.
When she knows you she is a really loving, affectionate girl.

Her DOB is approx. 05/15

If you feel you could adopt Jackie, please contact us.

Maybe you cannot adopt Jackie, but would like to sponsor her until she is adopted.

Alexis

Lexi was born in a field with her 3 other siblings. When they reached about 6 weeks old the mother disappeared and a local Greek family fed them. Unfortunately the family could not keep the pups and the house was very close to the busy road where the pups would wander down to, so I took them to HH.

The DOB for Lexi is approx. 11/15. She is a lovely friendly girl and gets on well with other dogs.

Jack

Jack (Blackjack) was running around outside Hectors House. He had been tied up and left there, but had broken free. As I had no room inside I just used to leave food and water outside for him. Also he was not approachable as he was very frightened.
I fed him each day and he came closer etc and would let me stroke him.
After a couple of weeks the local shepherd said he had seen a black dog and another dog steal some of his chickens and was worried that the dogs may attack his sheep.
I told him I would catch the black dog but had not seen the other dog. So now Jack is a HHC dog... like I need anymore!

Jack is approx 15 months old and still very shy. He is neutered. Jack is medium in height but of a light build.

Maybe you cannot adopt Jack, but would like to sponsor him until he is adopted.

Orchid

Back in May a local stray dog had 6 puppies in a field.
A lovely Greek family have been looking after the mum and pups and tried desperately to find homes for them. Unfortunately they could not find homes and since the field is next to a road they have asked if HHC can take them and re-home them. Obviously we have had to help with this as we cannot stand by and watch the puppies get killed on the road.

At the moment we only have 5 of the pups as the last one has proved difficult to catch. The couple are going to keep the mum and we have since had her neutered.
As the puppies were born in a field and are all girls I have given them names of flowers...

Mum is a med/large dog so would assume that the girls will be a similar height.
They were a little frightened when they first arrived but are now really sweet and loving puppies.

If you feel you could adopt Orchid, please contact us.

Maybe you cannot adopt Orchid, but would like to sponsor her until she is adopted.

Newby

I was up at HHC when I heard some barking coming from outside. When I went to investigate I found this lovely little chap just walking around and barking. He must just have been left up there in the middle of nowhere. I looked around but did not see any other pups....I hope there weren't anymore because I hate to think what might have happened to them.

He is a sweet little boy about 3 1/2 months old and will be a medium sized dog when fully grown.

Hugo

I was leaving HHC one day and as I turned the corner to go up the hill towards the bridge I stopped suddenly.
In the middle of the track was a sack with some large rocks placed on top. I could see something scampering around nearby. Someone had left a sack with puppies in (3 altogether).
I gathered them up and took them to HHC.

Ebony

Ebony is a lovely female dog born around September 2010. She is a good natured dog and loves playing with other dogs. She is sterilised also. Ebony lived on the streets in Kalo Horio being fed by some people I know until the local Greeks started laying poison down and many cats and dogs were killed. My friends were worried that Ebony would be poisoned too so asked if HHC could take her. As luck would have it we had a space so we agreed to take her.
